1. What do I do if I have a virus

The best course of action is to make sure you have good anti-virus protection and it is up to date to insure you never get infected

If you  have a virus they can be extremely hard to get rid of and usually requires someone experienced in the computer field to successfully remove the virus. We recommend 1st try and see if their are virus removal tools from reputable and known anti-virus publishers such as Symantec or MacAfee. If there is not the safest way is to wipe out your hard drive and start from scratch. Viruses are programs and once your hard drive is wiped clean they are destroyed, unfortunately so is everything else on your hard drive. If such drastic measures are required Trisec may be able to save your data for you. Call us at (913) 602-8595 before you do anything so we can help you review your options and help decide the best course of action

2. My PC is running slower and slower

Unfortunately as time goes on all computers slow down. There are a myriad of reasons this occurs 99% can be mitigated by you. Every program installed writes information to a database called the "registry" the bigger this gets the longer it takes to search through it.  All windows programs make use of this registry to tell it what files are located where and what instruction set for a particular task can be found. If a program is well designed and follows the rules established for installing itself on a computer. Registry entries made by that program are compact, well defined and stored in the correct container. The problem occurs when a poorly written program does not follow these rules. Items can be incorrect stored in the wrong places and so on. To combat this you can purchase registry cleaner programs. One thing you can do that is free is NOT install software that you are not 100% sure follows the rules. How do you do this? by only installing well know software packages from major software publishers

Another major source of slowdowns is virus like programs these programs install themselves and use your computer in tandem with other computers to perform functions like send mail messages out (spam) or attack other computers (hacking) all without your knowledge. The effect you see is your computer runs really slow since all it's resources are being consumed by the malicious software.

Trisec computers can assist you in returning your computer to top performance. Call us at (913 602-8595 so we can help you review your options and help decide the best course of action

5. Why does tech support tell my my mail is on the web and they cannot help me login?

Email such as Google, Yahoo MSN or AOL are "web based" that is they are accessed through a web page via your web browser (usually most people your "Internet Explorer") Web pages reside on a web server out on the internet. Your web browser makes a "request" and the server sends back what you see on a web page. This is not actually "on" your computer, just displayed on your computer. The password is transmitted to the web server when you type it in an encrypted form. The web server then runs what ever program they use to authenticate you and "log you in" a lost or non functional password must be reset by the company who runs the web page service

6. What is really covered by the manufacturer's warranty?

Hardware only. Computer manufacturers do not make the operating system (Vista, XP etc) or any programs. They create the physical machine. Software warranties, if any are handled by the company that created the software

7. Should I buy on of these extended warranties?

No if you are buying a desktop. If you are purchasing a laptop we highly recommend you do and you should buy an extended warranty that covers accidental damage that could occur to your computer
